R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The people of Calhoun County lost a valued civic
1-2 leader and a good friend with the passing of Stanley Louis Mikula
1-3 on June 30, 1996, at the age of 55, and the members of this chamber
1-4 join in recognizing the many contributions of this esteemed
1-5 gentleman; and
1-6 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Calhoun County, Mr. Mikula
1-7 was born September 2, 1940, to Gladys Meyer Mikula and Joseph John
1-8 Mikula; he was graduated from Sam Houston State University, and he
1-9 entered public service in 1969 as a board member of the Calhoun
1-10 County Navigation District; two years later, he rose to the
1-11 position of chairman, and during his nine years of service with the
1-12 district, he played an instrumental role in the enhancement of the
1-13 county's vital commercial waterways; and
1-14 WHEREAS, In 1979 he was elected to represent Precinct 2 as a
1-15 county commissioner, and hard work, professionalism, and dedication
1-16 to his constituents were the hallmarks of his 17 years of service
1-17 in that capacity; Mr. Mikula worked diligently to promote economic
1-18 development, road and drainage improvements, and emergency
1-19 services, and his tenure was marked by many distinguished
1-20 accomplishments, including the renovation and expansion of Memorial
1-21 Medical Center and the construction of Calhoun County Library's
1-22 main branch in Port Lavaca; and
1-23 WHEREAS, In addition, this civic-minded gentleman served his
1-24 friends and neighbors through his involvement with a number of
2-1 community organizations, and he offered wise and thoughtful
2-2 leadership to the Rotary Club, the Port Lavaca Parks and Recreation
2-3 Board, the Texas Association of Counties, and the Foreign Trade
2-4 Zone; and
2-5 WHEREAS, Throughout his many years of service, Mr. Mikula
2-6 continually worked in the best interests of the people of Calhoun
2-7 County, and he leaves behind him a remarkable legacy of good works
2-8 that will undoubtedly endure for years to come; now, therefore, be
2-9 it
2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-11 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Stanley Louis Mikula
2-12 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
2-13 beloved wife, Janice Lynn Marquette Mikula; to his sons, Stanley
2-14 Louis Mikula II and Phillip John Mikula; to his mother, Gladys
2-15 Meyer Mikula; to his sisters, Marilyn Mikula, Carla Jurek, and
2-16 Clarice Bissett; and to all the friends and relatives of this fine
2-17 man; and, be it further
2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-20 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-21 Stanley Louis Mikula.
