No. 141 75R5706 JHS-F R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Columbia, the nation's largest health care service 1-2 provider, is celebrating its second annual Texas Good Government 1-3 Day at the State Capitol; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Members of the Columbia team have traveled from all 1-5 across the State of Texas to meet with state legislators and their 1-6 staffs in Austin to discuss the various health care issues and 1-7 concerns that directly affect our residents; and 1-8 WHEREAS, With more than 47,000 employees in Texas and an 1-9 annual payroll of $1.2 billion, Columbia is the Lone Star State's 1-10 largest private employer; in 1996, Columbia's share of sales and 1-11 property taxes totaled nearly $135 million, representing a sizable 1-12 contribution to a host of important programs on both the state and 1-13 local levels; and 1-14 WHEREAS, In addition to providing valuable jobs and a vital 1-15 service to our state's citizens, Columbia dispenses millions of 1-16 dollars in uncompensated care annually; each day, the company's 1-17 staff of trained professionals treats an average of 100,000 1-18 patients nationwide, ensuring that our citizens are in good health 1-19 or are receiving the health care attention that they need; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Today's important deliberations and dialogue will be 1-21 capped off with a Texas-sized reception at the Four Seasons Hotel, 1-22 where legislators and their staffs will be honored for their 1-23 commitment to the residents of the Lone Star State and for assuring 1-24 that Texans are provided with an array of quality health care 2-1 alternatives; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby recognize February 26, 1997, as Columbia's Texas 2-4 Good Government Day at the State Capitol and invite all Texas 2-5 legislators and their staffs to participate in the day's 2-6 activities.
