R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Brazoswood Babe Ruth All-Star team is to be

 1-2     commended for its exceptional season and for its outstanding

 1-3     showing at the 1996 Babe Ruth World Series; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, In a grueling tournament that saw this team of

 1-5     talented 15-year-olds play seven games during an eight-day period,

 1-6     the Brazoswood All-Stars worked their way through the play-offs to

 1-7     confront the Hazel Dell Metro All-Stars in a winner-take-all

 1-8     tournament finale; although Brazoswood fell victim to the eventual

 1-9     champs by a score of 12-4, they displayed championship-caliber grit

1-10     and determination throughout the course of this national event; and

1-11           WHEREAS, The tournament was held in Lebanon, Missouri, and

1-12     featured some of the best baseball teams and players from across

1-13     the country; many future stars served notice to the host of fans

1-14     who traveled to the heartland to witness this celebration of the

1-15     Great American Pastime; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Several Brazoswood players, including pitcher Daniel

1-17     Stringer, catcher Andrew Anders, outfielder Tramaine Lacy, and

1-18     utility man Andy Cavazos, distinguished themselves among their

1-19     peers with their outstanding play and were named to the

1-20     All-Tournament team; in addition, Mr. Lacy and third baseman David

1-21     Rayburn received Golden Glove awards for their excellent

1-22     performance in the field; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Dedication to excellence both individually and as a

1-24     team was a hallmark of these notable Texans, whose remaining team

 2-1     members include Joe Allen Bullard, Victor Castillo, Joel Garcia,

 2-2     Jr., Jessie Harper, Thomas Hedrick, Paul Niswander, Matt Pyeatt,

 2-3     Kenneth Sharp, Selwyn Thomas, and Clifton Williams; the effort put

 2-4     forth by each of these players helped to ensure the team's strong

 2-5     finish; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, Manager Joe Bullard molded this group of athletes

 2-7     into a cohesive unit, practiced in the fundamentals of baseball and

 2-8     well-versed in the importance of sportsmanship; Mr. Bullard's

 2-9     leadership and dedication to these young men will no doubt benefit

2-10     them in the future, and his efforts were ably supported by coaches

2-11     Bob Ford and Joel Garcia; and

2-12           WHEREAS, This exemplary group of ballplayers and their

2-13     coaches are a tremendous source of pride for their many supporters

2-14     in the cities of Clute, Richwood, and Lake Jackson, and their

2-15     exceptional accomplishments have rightfully earned them special

2-16     legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

2-17           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-18     Legislature hereby congratulate Manager Joe Bullard and the

2-19     Brazoswood Babe Ruth All-Star team on their outstanding 1996 season

2-20     and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success and

2-21     happiness in the future; and, be it further

2-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-23     prepared for the members of the team and coaching staff as an

2-24     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
