R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Elias De La Garza recently celebrated his 31st

 1-2     birthday on January 14, 1997, and this event is truly deserving of

 1-3     special legislative recognition; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Born on January 14, 1966, Mr. De La Garza is a

 1-5     native of Houston and continues to make his home in that fine city

 1-6     today; an extremely industrious individual, he has managed to

 1-7     balance his educational endeavors with his business ventures,

 1-8     studying for an accounting degree at the University of Houston

 1-9     while serving as vice president and general manager of family-owned

1-10     De La Garza Interests, Inc., since 1988; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Mr. De La Garza's pursuits extend beyond the arenas

1-12     of education and business, however, and he is actively involved in

1-13     many valuable civic organizations; he is vice president of the

1-14     United Property Owners Association, serves on the board for Gulf

1-15     Coast Community Services, and is a member of the Eastwood Civic

1-16     Association, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Go Tejano

1-17     Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; and

1-18           WHEREAS, This dedicated civic leader recognizes the

1-19     importance of a reciprocal relationship with one's community and

1-20     has committed himself to helping restore Houston's East End

1-21     inner-city district; by once again making historical areas such as

1-22     this economically viable, a renewed sense of pride will surely be

1-23     instilled among urban residents; and

1-24           WHEREAS, Mr. De La Garza is leading the way as the members of

 2-1     his generation step forward and accept responsibility for the

 2-2     future of their communities, and as he passes this most recent

 2-3     milestone on the road of life, he continues to prove once again

 2-4     that he is indeed headed in the right direction; now, therefore, be

 2-5     it

 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-7     Legislature hereby congratulate Elias De La Garza on the occasion

 2-8     of his 31st birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for

 2-9     continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it

2-10     further

2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-12     prepared for Mr. De La Garza as an expression of high regard by the

2-13     Texas House of Representatives.
