R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     Judge Lanny Ramsay for his many years of outstanding service to the

 1-3     State of Texas; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Mount Vernon, he received his

 1-5     bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University before earning

 1-6     a juris doctorate from that institution's School of Law in 1968;

 1-7     deeply committed to public service, he was employed as a

 1-8     legislative aide before becoming an assistant district attorney of

 1-9     Dallas County in 1969; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Well regarded for his hard work, knowledge, and

1-11     dedication, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a jurist that has

1-12     spanned more than 25 years, beginning with his tenure as judge of

1-13     Franklin County from 1971 to 1975; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Judge Ramsay first ran for and won election as judge

1-15     of the Eighth Judicial District in 1976, and during his 20 years of

1-16     service in that post he presided over nearly 500 jury trials and

1-17     was respected for his integrity and fairness in all matters; and

1-18           WHEREAS, Now a senior judge, he is held in high esteem

1-19     throughout the legal profession, and he continues to have a

1-20     profound effect on issues important to his fellow Texans as both a

1-21     visiting judge and an attorney; and

1-22           WHEREAS, Judge Ramsay has further served his community

1-23     through his involvement with several worthy organizations,

1-24     including the Mount Vernon Rotary Club, the Franklin County Library

 2-1     Board, the March of Dimes, and the Athletic Booster Club; in

 2-2     addition, this remarkable Texan has been a positive role model to

 2-3     countless children as a coach of youth baseball and basketball

 2-4     teams for 15 years; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he has been sustained by his

 2-6     abiding faith as a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount

 2-7     Vernon, where he has served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher;

 2-8     and

 2-9           WHEREAS, His devotion to his career and his community is

2-10     surpassed only by his love for his family; Judge Ramsay is the

2-11     husband of noted civic leader Kitty Ramsay, and he is the proud

2-12     father of Whitney Ramsay, Will Ramsay, and Landon Ramsay; and

2-13           WHEREAS, Judge Ramsay's exceptional commitment has been a

2-14     source of inspiration to all who are privileged to know him, and it

2-15     gives the members of this chamber great pleasure to recognize him

2-16     at this time; now, therefore, be it

2-17           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-18     Legislature hereby honor Judge Lanny Ramsay for his remarkable

2-19     contributions to his state and community and extend to him warmest

2-20     best wishes for continued success and happiness in all his future

2-21     endeavors; and, be it further

2-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-23     prepared for Judge Ramsay as an expression of highest regard by the

2-24     Texas House of Representatives.
