R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     the Tyler Youth Orchestra for more than 40 years of outstanding

 1-3     service to the young people of East Texas; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Since its founding by the Women's Symphony League in

 1-5     1955, the  orchestra has provided a stimulating atmosphere for

 1-6     musicians ages 8 through 18, enabling them to express their

 1-7     creativity through ensemble playing and to develop greater music

 1-8     appreciation through the group's many live performances; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, The Tyler Youth Orchestra is made up of high school

1-10     students, while the Tyler Preparatory Orchestra consists of string

1-11     musicians enrolled in elementary and middle school, and the

1-12     organization recently established a founders' alumni association so

1-13     that former members can remain active with this noteworthy group;

1-14     and

1-15           WHEREAS, The members of the Tyler Youth Orchestra

1-16     participate in free concerts and community performances throughout

1-17     the year, and for the 1996-1997 season, they have an array of other

1-18     fun-filled and challenging activities planned, including

1-19     participation in the Camp Tyler Music Retreat and the Stephen F.

1-20     Austin Orchestra Members Clinic, as well as field trips to attend

1-21     performances of the Dallas Youth Orchestra and the Stephen F.

1-22     Austin Orchestra; and

1-23           WHEREAS, One of only six orchestras of its kind in the Lone

1-24     Star State, the Tyler Youth Orchestra offers young instrumentalists

 2-1     a unique opportunity to pool their musical gifts and expand their

 2-2     talents, and it gives the members of this chamber great pleasure to

 2-3     honor all those associated with this fine organization; now,

 2-4     therefore, be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-6     Legislature hereby commend the members and staff of the Tyler Youth

 2-7     Orchestra, including conductors Julie Simpson and Joanie Rathbun;

 2-8     and manager Judy Ferguson Milling, for their exceptional

 2-9     contributions to the East Texas cultural community and extend to

2-10     them best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it

2-11     further

2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-13     prepared for the Tyler Youth Orchestra as an expression of high

2-14     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
