R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The importance of setting a positive example for our

 1-2     state's young people cannot be overstated, and the efforts put

 1-3     forth in this regard by the members of the Duncanville Fire

 1-4     Department are indeed deserving of special legislative recognition;

 1-5     and

 1-6           WHEREAS, In a program that began last year, a group of eight

 1-7     Duncanville firefighters visit a different class at Smith Academy

 1-8     every 10 days; they eat lunch with the kids, give them a tour of

 1-9     the fire engine and ambulance, and impart important fire safety

1-10     information through game playing, all while answering the

1-11     youngsters' numerous questions; and

1-12           WHEREAS, The students have come to anticipate the arrival of

1-13     these dedicated men, and they eagerly await the day when their

1-14     class will be allowed to don the sturdy firefighting helmets,

1-15     explore the pristine fire engine, and possibly ring the gleaming

1-16     fire bell; and

1-17           WHEREAS, In addition to the valuable educational information

1-18     the children receive, they also have the opportunity to spend some

1-19     quality social time with adults; the firefighters benefit from this

1-20     regular interaction as well, and many have experienced renewed

1-21     enthusiasm for the essential service they provide; and

1-22           WHEREAS, The eight firefighters responsible for this exciting

1-23     program include Mike Hunt, David Leath, Greg Chase, Eric Johnson,

1-24     John Hutchinson, Robert Gibbons, Mike Ryan, and Pat McGinnis; these

 2-1     remarkable individuals have chosen to make a difference in their

 2-2     community through their commitment to Smith Academy, and their

 2-3     example will undoubtedly encourage others to do the same; now,

 2-4     therefore, be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-6     Legislature hereby honor these outstanding role models for their

 2-7     exceptional volunteer efforts and extend to them sincere best

 2-8     wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to come;

 2-9     and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-11     prepared for the Duncanville Fire Department as an expression of

2-12     high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
