R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Scott Schuman has demonstrated understandable
1-2 enthusiasm for the climate, cuisine, and culture of the Lone Star
1-3 State, and he has furthermore ably served the people of Texas
1-4 through his internship with State Representative Ken Yarbrough; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Schuman's early childhood, though happy, was
1-6 marred by the tragic circumstance of occurring in Philadelphia, and
1-7 he remained unaware of the gravity of his situation until the age
1-8 of eight, when he came to Texas to visit relatives; leaving behind
1-9 the wretched weather offered by his hometown, he stepped off his
1-10 plane into a balmy Austin spring and realized once and for all that
1-11 home is where the heat is; and
1-12 WHEREAS, In the years since, Mr. Schuman has made every
1-13 attempt to remain true to his Yankee origins while embracing Texan
1-14 traditions, Texan talk, and occasionally Texans themselves; over
1-15 time, however, he has gradually forsaken cheesecakes and cheese
1-16 steaks for fajitas and margaritas, and though he will always fondly
1-17 remember his boyhood home, he takes joy and comfort in the fact
1-18 that he will never again be expected to eat scrapple; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Although every year millions of unfortunate people
1-20 around the world are born in places that are not Texas, few are
1-21 perceptive enough to recognize the seriousness of this condition,
1-22 and fewer still have the gumption to address the problem; Scott
1-23 Schuman is one such seeker of sanctuary, and although we cannot
1-24 preempt the past, we can acknowledge and applaud this Pennsylvania
2-1 pilgrim's typically Texan tenacity; now, therefore, be it
2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-3 Legislature hereby declare Scott Schuman to be an honorary Texan
2-4 with all the privileges and perquisites accorded those individuals
2-5 actually born on our state's hallowed soil; and, be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for Mr. Schuman as formal proof of his new status.
Yarbrough
