                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Lone Star State is home to some of the world's

 1-2     most outstanding professional and amateur athletes, and on January

 1-3     5, 1997, Jessica Pruett of Whitesboro joined this select group when

 1-4     she won the national Punt, Pass, and Kick competition before a

 1-5     crowd of 60,000 at Foxboro Stadium in Massachusetts; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Ms. Pruett's rise to national prominence began

 1-7     almost by chance, when she accompanied her brother to a local Punt,

 1-8     Pass,  and Kick competition; as the only girl present, she easily

 1-9     won her division and proceeded to confront more rigorous

1-10     competition at regional trials in Garland and Dallas; and

1-11           WHEREAS, After finishing as one of the top four finalists in

1-12     the country for her age group, Ms. Pruett traveled to Massachusetts

1-13     with her parents for the final competition, and it was there that

1-14     her true champion's spirit was revealed; though suffering from an

1-15     injured back and pulled leg muscle sustained during practice, she

1-16     marshaled sufficient strength and skill to best her opponents and

1-17     take first place in her age group; and

1-18           WHEREAS, A talented basketball player as well, this

1-19     remarkable young Texan's athletic prowess is matched by her

1-20     dedication and strength of character, and her recent success

1-21     portends a bright future indeed; now, therefore, be it

1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-23     Legislature hereby congratulate Jessica Pruett on winning the

1-24     national Punt, Pass, and Kick competition and extend to her sincere

 2-1     best wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and,

 2-2     be it further

 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-4     prepared for Ms. Pruett as an expression of high regard by the

 2-5     Texas House of Representatives.
