                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Gladys Youngblood Ross on February

 1-2     22, 1996, at the age of 91, brought a great loss to the family and

 1-3     friends of this commendable woman, and as the first anniversary of

 1-4     her death approaches, it is fitting to offer tribute to her lasting

 1-5     memory; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross was born in the Johnson County community

 1-7     of Salem, where her family maintained extensive land holdings and

 1-8     were well thought of among their neighbors; she joined Salem

 1-9     Baptist Church at an early age and was fond of recalling the day of

1-10     her baptism, which took place at Chambers Creek on property owned

1-11     by her grandfather, Peter Martin Ingle; and

1-12           WHEREAS, In 1925, the former Gladys Youngblood was united in

1-13     marriage to Robert P. Ross, and the newlyweds soon relocated to the

1-14     Ross family home in nearby Grandview; their union was blessed with

1-15     a son and a daughter, and their happy marriage lasted more than 40

1-16     years until Mr. Ross's untimely passing in 1967; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Mrs. Ross continued to run the family farm until

1-18     1982, and even after relinquishing control of its day-to-day

1-19     operation, she maintained an active interest in this agricultural

1-20     legacy; at the time of her death this ancestral property had

1-21     belonged to the Youngblood and Ross families for 119 years; and

1-22           WHEREAS, A member of the First Baptist Church of Grandview

1-23     since 1924, this devout woman was always active in the parish and

1-24     was an avid reader of the Bible; her other interests included a

 2-1     longtime enthusiasm for bridge and other card games, as well as

 2-2     membership in the Grandview Garden Club; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, Gladys Youngblood Ross was a woman of compassion and

 2-4     high moral standing, and though her guidance and devotion have been

 2-5     missed by those close to her, her spirit has continued to dwell in

 2-6     their thoughts and deeds; now, therefore, be it

 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-8     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gladys Youngblood

 2-9     Ross and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to

2-10     her daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie Ross Washmon and Bruce Washmon;

2-11     to her son and daughter-in-law, Joe Pitts Ross and Sandra Ross; to

2-12     her grandchildren, Pattie Randles Marcos and her husband, Chris,

2-13     Sarah Jane Fettinger and her husband, Patrick, J. R.  Randles and

2-14     his wife, Sarah, and Robert P. Ross II and his wife, Lisa; to her

2-15     five great-grandchildren; and to the many other relatives and

2-16     friends of this beloved woman; and, be it further

2-17           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-18     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas

2-19     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-20     Gladys Youngblood Ross.
