R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great

 1-2     pleasure in welcoming a very distinguished guest, the Honorable

 1-3     Kevin Brady, to the State Capitol; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Congressman Brady was elected in 1996 to represent

 1-5     the 8th Congressional District of Texas; he currently serves on the

 1-6     House Committees on Science, International Relations, and

 1-7     Resources, as well as subcommittees on International Economic

 1-8     Policy and Trade, the Western Hemisphere, Energy and Mineral

 1-9     Resources, Space and Aeronautics, and Technology; and

1-10           WHEREAS, This freshman congressman was involved in a historic

1-11     series of elections when the repeated realignment of his district's

1-12     lines forced him to run for office four times in one year; however,

1-13     his determination to gain a seat in this important and prestigious

1-14     legislative body helped him prevail in this significant pursuit;

1-15     and

1-16           WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of South Dakota and a

1-17     native of that state, Congressman Brady has 18 years of experience

1-18     as a chamber of commerce executive and has brought his leadership

1-19     to positions with several of our state's outstanding economic

1-20     development organizations, including the South Montgomery Woodlands

1-21     Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Houston Council of Chambers;

1-22     and

1-23           WHEREAS, In 1990, Congressman Brady was elected to the Texas

1-24     House of Representatives as the state representative for the 15th

 2-1     District, and he remained in that capacity for three sessions;

 2-2     during his fine tenure, he served as vice chairman of the Committee

 2-3     on Business and Industry and the Committee on Rules and

 2-4     Resolutions, and he was a member of the committees on Juvenile

 2-5     Justice and Family Issues, Human Services, and Science and

 2-6     Technology; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, This dedicated individual is well known for his work

 2-8     on child abuse issues, ethics reform, and rules reform, and his

 2-9     career as a legislator has earned him many honors, including

2-10     recognition as one of Texas' Ten Best Legislators for his

2-11     contributions to family and children's issues, as well as

2-12     designation as one of Five Outstanding Young Texans for his state

2-13     and community leadership; and

2-14           WHEREAS, Kevin Brady's devotion to his community and to the

2-15     people of Texas has earned him the respect and admiration of his

2-16     fellow citizens, and the members of this chamber are proud to wish

2-17     him well in his most recent undertaking, confident that he will

2-18     faithfully represent his constituents and the Lone Star State; now,

2-19     therefore, be it

2-20           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-21     Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Kevin Brady for his

2-22     efforts in behalf of the State of Texas and extend to him sincere

2-23     best wishes for success during his inaugural session in the United

2-24     States House of Representatives; and, be it further

2-25           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-26     prepared for Congressman Brady as an expression of highest regard

2-27     by the Texas House of Representatives.
