R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, For many years, Robert L. Herndon of Aransas Pass

 1-2     has committed himself to the service of both his country and his

 1-3     community, and this notable Texan is truly deserving of special

 1-4     praise at this time; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Herndon achieved

 1-6     the rank of sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and was the

 1-7     recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service

 1-8     Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service

 1-9     Medal; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Since leaving the Marines, Mr. Herndon has been a

1-11     vital and valued officer of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post

1-12     2932; the post's commander from 1963 to 1967 and post burial

1-13     commander since 1963, he has also served as post service officer

1-14     and VFW District Six inspector; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Herndon's many contributions to his hometown are

1-16     not limited to the VFW, and he is active in a number of other

1-17     organizations, including the Aransas Pass Rotary Club, the Aransas

1-18     Pass Lion's Club, and the Masonic Lodge; he is also a dedicated

1-19     member of First Baptist Church; and

1-20           WHEREAS, An enthusiastic amateur meteorologist, Mr. Herndon

1-21     is  well known to his neighbors as "The Rain Man" for his long-term

1-22     project of recording and reporting weather conditions in Aransas

1-23     Pass and the Coastal Bend; and

1-24           WHEREAS, In gratitude for Mr. Herndon's outstanding efforts

 2-1     in behalf of his neighbors and fellow veterans, Mayor Bill St.

 2-2     Clair has declared February 15, 1997, Robert L. Herndon Day in

 2-3     Aransas Pass, and this distinction offers an ideal opportunity to

 2-4     recognize this remarkable gentleman; now, therefore, be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-6     Legislature hereby honor Robert L. Herndon for his lifetime of

 2-7     service and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success

 2-8     and happiness in the future; and, be it further

 2-9           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-10     prepared for Mr. Herndon as an expression of high regard by the

2-11     Texas House of Representatives.
