R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Citizen participation in the governmental process is 1-2 one of the cornerstones of democracy, and organizations that foster 1-3 this participation perform an essential function; one such group is 1-4 the Silver-Haired Legislature, and the public-spirited men and 1-5 women that comprise this body are indeed deserving of special 1-6 praise and recognition; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Elected for two-year terms, the members of the 1-8 Silver-Haired Legislature convene to develop legislation and policy 1-9 initiatives for presentation to the state legislature, with 1-10 particular emphasis on issues of interest to older Texans; and 1-11 WHEREAS, These vital and valued members of their communities 1-12 volunteer their time and talent to serve with the organization, and 1-13 in sharing their years of wisdom and experience they provide 1-14 legislators with valuable insight into the needs and priorities of 1-15 the elderly; and 1-16 WHEREAS, The Silver-Haired Legislature's many contributions 1-17 to the welfare of the Lone Star State have benefited not only 1-18 senior citizens but Texans of all ages, and it is to be hoped that 1-19 this worthy group's efforts will continue for many years to come; 1-20 now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby commend the members of the Silver-Haired 1-23 Legislature on their outstanding public service and extend to them 1-24 sincere best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it 2-1 further 2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-3 prepared for the members of the Silver-Haired Legislature as an 2-4 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
