                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, This year the members of the Leo Majek Orchestra of

 1-2     Corpus Christi will celebrate 100 years as a musical family, and

 1-3     this momentous occasion is truly worthy of special recognition; and

 1-4           WHEREAS,  In 1897, the orchestra was founded by Leo Majek,

 1-5     Sr., in Slavkov, Moravia, now the Czech Republic; when Mr. Majek

 1-6     and his family emigrated to Central Texas in 1913, they spread

 1-7     their music throughout the area, and since moving to Corpus Christi

 1-8     more than 50 years ago, these accomplished musicians have continued

 1-9     to delight audiences with their inspired renditions; and

1-10           WHEREAS, The couple's six sons, Julius, John, Joe, Frank,

1-11     Charlie, and Leo, Jr., inherited their father's musical abilities,

1-12     and they in turn instilled in their descendants both a love and a

1-13     talent for performing; the orchestra has spanned four generations

1-14     of the Majek family, and it has earned further renown as the

1-15     longest-performing Czech family orchestra in the country; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Throughout the years, many Texans have enjoyed the

1-17     group's lively tunes on the radio, and the Majeks have produced

1-18     several popular videos as well; on February 22, 1997, the orchestra

1-19     will give a special performance at the 13th Annual Czech Heritage

1-20     Festival in Corpus Christi, promising fun-filled entertainment for

1-21     music lovers of all ages; and

1-22           WHEREAS,  For the past century, the Leo Majek Orchestra has

1-23     brightened the lives of countless individuals through its  superb

1-24     performances, and it gives the members of this chamber great

 2-1     pleasure to honor these fine musicians for their remarkable

 2-2     service; now, therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-4     Legislature hereby honor the Leo Majek Orchestra on the occasion of

 2-5     its 100th anniversary and extend to its members warmest best wishes

 2-6     for many more years of continued success and happiness; and, be it

 2-7     further

 2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-9     prepared for the Leo Majek Orchestra as an expression of high

2-10     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
