No. 194 75R5632 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Texans from all walks of life can take great pride 1-2 and satisfaction in the successful restoration of the State Capitol 1-3 and its grounds, an ambitious project that has resulted in a 1-4 statehouse that aptly expresses the rich heritage and proud 1-5 traditions of the Lone Star State; and 1-6 WHEREAS, This undertaking would not have been possible 1-7 without the skill and dedication of Architect of the Capitol Allen 1-8 McCree, and it is indeed fitting at this time to recognize his 1-9 outstanding contributions to this chapter in the state's history; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. McCree earned his bachelor's 1-12 degree in journalism from Texas A&M University before completing 1-13 graduate work in architecture at Kansas State University and The 1-14 University of Texas at Austin, and he embarked on his career as an 1-15 architect while still serving in the United States Army; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Mr. McCree spent 20 years as an executive associate 1-17 at Page Southerland Page, followed by his tenure as planning 1-18 advisor and project manager with The University of Texas System, 1-19 and his successful stewardship of more than 120 projects in these 1-20 positions testifies to the breadth of experience he brought to the 1-21 Capitol effort; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The high opinion of Mr. McCree held by his 1-23 professional peers is reflected in his election to the American 1-24 Institute of Architects College of Fellows, and he has served on 2-1 that organization's board of directors and as president and 2-2 treasurer of its Austin chapter; he has also served as Austin 2-3 director for the Texas Society of Architects; and 2-4 WHEREAS, In addition, he has given many hours of volunteer 2-5 service to his church, chairing both the Budget and Finance 2-6 Committee and the Board of Deacons at Westminster Presbyterian 2-7 Church; he also lent his vocal talents to the church's choir for 2-8 eight years; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Despite his many accomplishments, Mr. McCree 2-10 continues to draw his greatest joy and inspiration from his 2-11 close-knit family, and his wife and daughter, Lynn Baine McCree and 2-12 Meredith McCree, know and love him best as a devoted husband and 2-13 father; and 2-14 WHEREAS, Allen McCree's vision and talent have made possible 2-15 the remarkable renovation of our beloved Capitol, and generations 2-16 of Texans will be the beneficiaries of this historic legacy; now, 2-17 therefore, be it 2-18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-19 Legislature hereby commend Allen McCree on his achievements as 2-20 Architect of the Capitol and extend to him sincere best wishes for 2-21 continued success and happiness in the future; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for Mr. McCree as an expression of high regard by the 2-24 Texas House of Representatives.
