No. 195 75R6671 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, One of the Lone Star State's greatest assets is its 1-2 rich legacy of Tejano culture, and on February 23, 1997, the 1-3 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's Go Tejano Day will recognize 1-4 this typically Texan tradition in fine style; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This eagerly awaited event has become famous for 1-6 featuring the top Tejano musical talent of the day, and this year's 1-7 program is no exception, featuring both highly acclaimed singer 1-8 Emilio Navaira and accomplished ensemble El Grupo Limite; and 1-9 WHEREAS, For the past six years, Go Tejano Day performances 1-10 have attracted record crowds and have introduced a host of music 1-11 lovers to the festive rhythms and romantic ballads of Tejano music; 1-12 in addition, the event provides an opportunity to honor outstanding 1-13 young Hispanic students with scholarships and with well-deserved 1-14 public recognition; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Go Tejano Day's celebration of Hispanic music and 1-16 culture is not only a noteworthy musical event but also a 1-17 celebration of the unique heritage of the Lone Star State, and 1-18 Texans everywhere can take pride and satisfaction in this exciting 1-19 event; now, therefore, be it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-21 Legislature hereby recognize February 23, 1997, as Go Tejano Day at 1-22 the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and extend to all its 1-23 participants sincere best wishes for a successful program.
