R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Cecil Bird will celebrate his 90th birthday on

 1-2     February 23, 1997, at the West Columbia Civic Center, and to his

 1-3     relatives and many friends, this event promises to be a truly

 1-4     joyous occasion; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Mr. Bird was born February 22, 1907, in Wilson

 1-6     County; the son of Claude and Susan Watkins Bird, he completed his

 1-7     education at Caddo School and Stockdale High School; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, In 1935, he wed the lovely Bernice King Lorenz, and

 1-9     the couple shared a happy and rewarding marriage until Mrs. Bird's

1-10     passing; throughout the years, Mr. Bird has been sustained by the

1-11     close relationship that he shares with his family, which includes

1-12     his daughter, Betty Sue Bird, his stepson and stepdaughter-in-law,

1-13     R.  Wade and Pat Lorenz, and his beloved grandson, Clay Lorenz; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Mr. Bird is well regarded for a distinguished

1-15     banking career that spanned 60 years, and he rose to the position

1-16     of president and chairman of the board of First Capitol Bank of

1-17     West Columbia before retiring in 1988; and

1-18           WHEREAS, A longtime resident of West Columbia, he has further

1-19     served that community as a member of both the West Columbia Rotary

1-20     Club and Columbia United Methodist Church, and his civic

1-21     involvement has been a source of inspiration to all who know him;

1-22     and

1-23           WHEREAS, Cecil Bird has brought much joy and happiness to the

1-24     countless people whose lives he has touched, and it gives the

 2-1     members of this chamber great pleasure to recognize him on this

 2-2     significant occasion; now, therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-4     Legislature hereby honor Cecil Bird and extend warmest

 2-5     congratulations to this eminent gentleman on the occasion of his

 2-6     90th birthday; and, be it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-8     prepared for Mr. Bird as an expression of high regard by the Texas

 2-9     House of Representatives.
