                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to

 1-2     recognize the Friends of Fair Park for the outstanding

 1-3     contributions that group has made to the betterment of the Dallas

 1-4     community; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The organization's hardworking staff and

 1-6     administrators have dedicated themselves to a number of worthy

 1-7     initiatives, including the restoration of the park's historic

 1-8     buildings and artwork, promotion of the park's year-round use, and

 1-9     support of the Fair Park museums; in the past two years alone, the

1-10     organization has worked with various groups to raise more than $15

1-11     million to help achieve its goals; and

1-12           WHEREAS,  Friends of Fair Park has received funding to

1-13     refurbish the park's buildings, murals, and statuary, many of which

1-14     date back to the Texas Centennial in 1936 and that have earned the

1-15     park designation as a National Historic Landmark; in addition, the

1-16     impressive Fish Fountain, located at the main gateway to the park,

1-17     will be restored to its original splendor; and

1-18           WHEREAS, The organization has also worked with other groups

1-19     to meet requirements for the construction of both the Museum of

1-20     African American Life and Culture and an IMAX Theater, and its

1-21     staff will also devote their energies to establish a Museum of

1-22     Women's History at the Hall of Administration; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Friends of Fair Park further serves the Dallas

1-24     community through its noteworthy civic involvement; the

 2-1     organization sponsors an annual Easter egg hunt and  holiday light

 2-2     show and has generously made its Margo Jones Theater available to

 2-3     countless nonprofit groups at a nominal cost; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Through its fine efforts, the organization has

 2-5     enhanced the image of Fair Park as a place where people can come to

 2-6     be entertained, educated, and inspired, and it gives the members of

 2-7     this chamber great pleasure to recognize all those associated with

 2-8     this group for their exemplary public service; now, therefore, be

 2-9     it

2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-11     Legislature hereby honor the staff and administrators of the

2-12     Friends of Fair Park, including Executive Director Craig Holcomb

2-13     and Board President Teresa R. Trevino, for their exceptional

2-14     commitment to their community; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-16     prepared for the Friends of Fair Park as an expression of high

2-17     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
