R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great 1-2 pleasure in welcoming the members of the Texas Midwest Community 1-3 Network (TMCN) to Austin on March 5, 1997, to celebrate Texas 1-4 Midwest Day at the Capitol; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Founded in 1994, the Texas Midwest Community Network 1-6 has quickly become a vital part of this 20-county area; bound by 1-7 the commendable goals of sustaining economic growth and maintaining 1-8 a high quality of life, this organization seeks to give a voice to 1-9 the smaller towns and cities in this region; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Through a series of luncheons and regional 1-11 workshops, the members of this networking group learn about the 1-12 important issues related to their communities and attempt to 1-13 develop appropriate solutions; this spirit of regionalism has 1-14 allowed members to play a more prominent role in the decisions that 1-15 affect their community's residents and has created a whole that has 1-16 become greater than the sum of its parts; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The network is made up of 56 associate members from 1-18 34 cities and includes corporations, businesses, associations, and 1-19 individuals; in addition to publishing The Update, the 1-20 organization's quarterly newsletter, TMCN also produces the Texas 1-21 Midwest Guide, a nationally distributed information and travel 1-22 guide designed to promote the many excellent opportunities for 1-23 business and tourism offered in the region; and 1-24 WHEREAS, The TMCN council's plans for 1997 include increasing 2-1 membership, enhancing communication among communities, and 2-2 developing regional marketing strategies; by joining together in 2-3 this common cause, the citizens of the midwestern counties of Texas 2-4 not only enjoy greater visibility and influence within the state, 2-5 but also have experienced a more profound sense of community; now, 2-6 therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby welcome the members of the Texas Midwest 2-9 Community Network to the Capitol and extend to them sincere best 2-10 wishes for the continued success of this outstanding organization; 2-11 and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-13 prepared for the TMCN delegation as an expression of high regard by 2-14 the Texas House of Representatives.
