No. 219 75R6675 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, From March 3 to March 5, 1997, Representative Joe 1-2 Nixon's Capitol Scholars Program will bring four notable young 1-3 Texans to Austin to meet with Governor George W. Bush and members 1-4 of the legislature, and the students' selection for this honor is 1-5 indeed worthy of special praise and recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Designed to foster the active involvement in 1-7 government that is the cornerstone of our democracy, the Capitol 1-8 Scholars Program brings deserving students to Austin to experience 1-9 the legislative process firsthand, and this year's group, Linh Thu 1-10 Do, Kristin Kruse, Stacey Rubin, and Victoria Spencer, will be the 1-11 first to participate in this unique venture; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Students at Houston's Memorial High School, the four 1-13 were chosen for their academic excellence, their participation in 1-14 extracurricular activities, and, most importantly, the essays they 1-15 submitted on topics of current political interest; accompanied by 1-16 their government teacher, Joyce Miller-Alper, they will observe the 1-17 state's lawmakers in action and gain a greater understanding of the 1-18 democratic process; and 1-19 WHEREAS, These remarkable young people have demonstrated both 1-20 keen intelligence and outstanding ability in their academic 1-21 careers, and it is a pleasure and a privilege to welcome to the 1-22 Capitol individuals whose futures are so bright with promise; now, 1-23 therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby congratulate the participants in Representative 2-2 Joe Nixon's Capitol Scholars Program and extend to them sincere 2-3 best wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and, 2-4 be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-6 for Linh Thu Do, Kristin Kruse, Stacey Rubin, and Victoria Spencer 2-7 as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-8 Representatives.
