                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Lyondell Petrochemical Company's Polymers Facility

 1-2     in Matagorda has been awarded Star certification by the

 1-3     Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in recognition

 1-4     of the facility's outstanding contributions toward protecting the

 1-5     health and safety of its workers; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, This special distinction is indeed well deserved,

 1-7     for employees at the facility have completed more than 4,700,000

 1-8     hours without lost-time injury and have given the plant one of the

 1-9     best safety records in the nation, with more than 15 years of safe

1-10     operation; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Among the country's largest and most modern

1-12     high-density polyethylene (HDPE) facilities, the plant produces

1-13     more than 1,000,000,000 pounds per year of HDPE, which is used by

1-14     customers to make such diverse products as detergent and motor oil

1-15     bottles; grocery, merchandise, and trash bags; plastic pails,

1-16     cases, and crates; and specialty applications; and

1-17           WHEREAS, The Matagorda plant is the first in the county to

1-18     receive Star status as part of OSHA's Voluntary Protection

1-19     Programs, and this prestigious status is a fitting tribute to the

1-20     exceptional work environment that has been created at the facility

1-21     through the shared commitment and cooperation of labor, management,

1-22     and government; and

1-23           WHEREAS, With its designation as a Star worksite, the

1-24     Matagorda facility of Lyondell Petrochemical Company has joined an

 2-1     elite group of only 200 manufacturing sites nationwide that have

 2-2     met the stringent requirements of certification, earning the

 2-3     highest recognition given for plant safety processes by the United

 2-4     States Department of Labor; it is indeed appropriate at this time

 2-5     that this exemplary facility be given special legislative

 2-6     recognition and support for its notable accomplishments in this

 2-7     regard; now, therefore, be it

 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-9     Legislature hereby commend the employees and managers of Lyondell

2-10     Petrochemical Company's Matagorda Polymers Facility, including

2-11     Chairman Bob Gower, President Dan Smith, and Senior Vice President

2-12     Debra Starnes, for their remarkable achievement in the area of

2-13     occupational health and safety; and, be it further

2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-15     prepared for Lyondell Petrochemical Company's Matagorda Polymers

2-16     Facility as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of

2-17     Representatives.
