R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The family and many friends of A. M. "Chick"

 1-2     Anderson, Jr., were greatly saddened by his passing on October 27,

 1-3     1996, at the age of 84, and the members of this chamber join them

 1-4     in mourning their loss; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Anderson was born and raised in

 1-6     Bay City and attended Rice University; in 1941 he married Vera

 1-7     Lowe, and they were blessed with two sons before her death in 1959;

 1-8     Mr. Anderson later enjoyed a long and fulfilling marriage to

 1-9     Frances Dodson Anderson, and the addition of her three sons made

1-10     his family complete; and

1-11           WHEREAS, The year 1941 also marked the beginning of

1-12     Mr. Anderson's career as a manager for Alamo Lumber Company, a job

1-13     he held until 1962, when he bought the firm's Sweeny branch and

1-14     renamed it Anderson Lumber Company; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Anderson's skill as a lumberman and entrepreneur

1-16     was well matched with his lifelong commitment to his community, and

1-17     he served as mayor of Sweeny for over 20 years, becoming the town's

1-18     first Mayor Emeritus; a charter member and past president of the

1-19     Sweeny Lions Club, he was also a member of the Lumbermen's

1-20     Association of Texas and the Board of Directors of Sweeny Hospital;

1-21     and

1-22           WHEREAS, Throughout his life Mr. Anderson drew great joy and

1-23     inspiration from his large and loving family, and he will be fondly

1-24     remembered not only as an astute businessman and dedicated public

 2-1     servant but also as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather;

 2-2     now, therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-4     Legislature hereby honor the memory of A. M. "Chick" Anderson and

 2-5     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,

 2-6     Frances Dodson Anderson; to his sons and daughters-in-law, A. M.

 2-7     "Mike" Anderson III, John Rockne "Rocky" Anderson, Carl Dodson,

 2-8     Jr., and his wife Shirley, Jack Dodson and his wife Nancy, and

 2-9     Brian Dodson and his wife Teresa; to his grandchildren, Terry

2-10     Dodson, Kimberly Dodson, Cary Dodson, David Dodson, Michael Dodson,

2-11     and Randy Dodson and his wife Pam; and to all the friends and

2-12     relatives of this esteemed Texan; and, be it further

2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-14     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-15     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-16     A. M.  "Chick" Anderson.
