R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of James Napoleon Dorsey
1-2 were greatly saddened by his passing on January 12, 1997, at the
1-3 age of 90; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Oklahoma City to Will and Willie Ann Dorsey,
1-5 Jim Dorsey found his calling in life as a railroad worker, spending
1-6 30 years as a valued employee in that industry; and
1-7 WHEREAS, A vital participant in the life of his community,
1-8 Mr. Dorsey was an active member of the Alamo City Chamber of
1-9 Commerce, the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society, and St.
1-10 Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as an usher; and
1-11 WHEREAS, The great esteem in which Mr. Dorsey was held by
1-12 those around him is evident in the honors accorded him during his
1-13 lifetime; the recipient of the Archbishop Furey Award, he was also
1-14 named the 20th Century Club's 1977 Father of the Year; and
1-15 WHEREAS, In all aspects of his life and career, James
1-16 Napoleon Dorsey exemplified the highest standards of dedication and
1-17 integrity; though he will be missed, his unique spirit will
1-18 undoubtedly live on in the fond memories of all those whose lives
1-19 he touched; now, therefore, be it
1-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
1-21 Legislature hereby honor the memory of James Napoleon Dorsey and
1-22 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
1-23 beloved wife of 68 years, LaVera K. Dorsey; to his daughter,
1-24 Jeanette; and to all the relatives and friends of this
2-1 distinguished gentleman; and, be it further
2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-3 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-4 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-5 James Napoleon Dorsey.
