                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Jesse A. Oppenheimer on January 11,

 1-2     1997, at the age of 80, has brought a great loss to the many

 1-3     friends and relatives of this distinguished Texan; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Mr. Oppenheimer earned

 1-5     bachelor of arts and law degrees from St. Mary's University and for

 1-6     many years enjoyed a successful legal career in private practice;

 1-7     after his retirement, he remained active in helping people to

 1-8     resolve their differences through his involvement with the Bexar

 1-9     County Dispute Resolution Center; and

1-10           WHEREAS, This public-spirited Texan was a candidate for the

1-11     Texas Senate in 1956 and for the Bexar County Commissioners Court

1-12     in 1968; he was also a staunch supporter of the Republican Party

1-13     and dedicated himself to strengthening its presence in the region;

1-14     and

1-15           WHEREAS, Mr. Oppenheimer was a warm and compassionate

1-16     individual who gave generously of his time, talents, and resources

1-17     to assist such worthy groups as the Lions Club, the American

1-18     Legion, the American Cancer Society, and the American Heart

1-19     Association; he was deeply committed to the young people of his

1-20     community as well, and he established a scholarship at the Texas

1-21     Military Institute in the name of his late son, Alan G.

1-22     Oppenheimer, to help deserving students receive a quality

1-23     education; and

1-24           WHEREAS, A man of great vision, Jesse Oppenheimer left an

 2-1     indelible mark on the community he was proud to call home, and

 2-2     though his presence will be deeply missed, his memory will long

 2-3     endure in the hearts and minds of all who were privileged to know

 2-4     him; now, therefore, be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-6     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jesse A. Oppenheimer

 2-7     and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his

 2-8     beloved wife of 54 years, Norma Oppenheimer; to his daughters and

 2-9     son-in-law, Sally Oppenheimer, Nora Oppenheimer Bollman, and Bob

2-10     Bollman; to his grandchildren, Allison Hockersmith and her husband,

2-11     Michael, Amy Oppenheimer, Marcus Walker, Reagan Walker, and Branden

2-12     Walker; to his great-grandson, Alan Hockersmith; and to his many

2-13     other friends and relatives; and, be it further

2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-15     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-16     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-17     Jesse A.  Oppenheimer.
