R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On March 3, 1997, Holocaust Museum Houston will 1-2 commemorate the first anniversary of the opening of its permanent 1-3 facility, and this noteworthy occasion is indeed worthy of special 1-4 praise and recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Since its opening, tens of thousands of visitors 1-6 have been stirred and enlightened by the museum's historical 1-7 exhibits and educational programs, coming from as far away as 1-8 Corpus Christi, Dallas, and Louisiana; this valued institution is 1-9 the third largest Holocaust museum in the country, and the only 1-10 museum of its kind in Texas; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In presenting the stories of Holocaust survivors, 1-12 the museum's exhibits vividly illustrate the brutal consequences of 1-13 allowing discrimination and oppression to run unchecked, and as 1-14 visitors are drawn into the experience of those who lived through 1-15 this tragedy, they are made aware of its horrors in moving human 1-16 terms; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The most effective weapon against prejudice is the 1-18 courage of the individual conscience, and in forging emotional 1-19 connections with Holocaust victims, visitors to the museum are 1-20 awakened to their own responsibilities in combatting this evil; 1-21 now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-23 Legislature hereby honor the staff and supporters of Holocaust 1-24 Museum Houston on its first anniversary and extend to them sincere 2-1 best wishes for continued success in the years to come.
