R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Hal Edward Wingate on September 5, 1-2 1995, at the age of 85, has brought a great loss to the family and 1-3 many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Beaumont and a descendant of pioneers 1-5 who settled the region in the 1800s, Mr. Wingate was born to the 1-6 land and to the tradition of ranching and rice farming; he spent 1-7 his long and productive life developing and caring for the land 1-8 that his family had owned and used for generations; and 1-9 WHEREAS, To Mr. Wingate, family was of paramount importance 1-10 in his life; married in 1933 to Pansy Grammier, he and his wife 1-11 were blessed with two daughters, Joyce and Barbara, and they shared 1-12 a deep and abiding love for 63 years; this happy couple's life was 1-13 further enriched by their five grandsons, all of whom grew to be 1-14 distinguished men under the guidance of their affectionate 1-15 grandfather; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Hal Edward Wingate will long be remembered in his 1-17 community as a warm-hearted, friendly man who loved people; he was 1-18 well known for his humorous stories and was a familiar sight 1-19 driving to the feed store with his cowboy hat cocked to the right 1-20 and his dog in the back; and 1-21 WHEREAS, In addition, this respected gentleman will be 1-22 remembered for the service he gave to his community; an active 1-23 citizen who believed strongly in fulfilling his civic duty, he was 1-24 a lifetime member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church and a member of 2-1 the Knights of Columbus; a trustee of the Hamshire-Fannett Schools 2-2 for 20 years, he also served as a member of the Fannett Water Board 2-3 and the local fire department, and he completed a remarkable 2-4 53-year tenure as the election chairman of Precinct 30; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Hal Edward Wingate was a man of insight and 2-6 integrity whose commitment to his family and community was an 2-7 inspiration to all who knew him, and although his guidance and 2-8 devotion has been missed, his spirit surely lives on in the hearts 2-9 of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hal Edward Wingate 2-12 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-13 wife, Pansy Wingate; to his daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and 2-14 Mitch Hankamer, and Barbara and Roland Blanchard; to his 2-15 grandchildren, Rocky Sewell, Cody Sewell, Coy Sewell, Chad 2-16 Blanchard, Kirk Blanchard, Kim Sewell, Janet Sewell, and Brandi 2-17 Sewell; to his great-granddaughter, Nicole Sewell; to his sister, 2-18 Ruth "Dutch" Gilmore; and to the many other relatives and friends 2-19 of this beloved man; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-22 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-23 Hal Edward Wingate.
