No. 270 75R7928 PAN-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The East Texas Poultry Festival has become the 1-2 premier event of its kind in the Lone Star State over the course of 1-3 its 20-year history; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The gala weekend celebration is held in Center's 1-5 charming courthouse square on the first Thursday, Friday, and 1-6 Saturday of October each year and is sponsored by the Shelby County 1-7 Chamber of Commerce; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Also occupying the square during the festival is a 1-9 carnival, sponsored by the Center Noon Lions Club, whose proceeds 1-10 benefit such worthy endeavors as funding a crippled children's camp 1-11 and providing scholarships and eyeglasses to area youth; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Among the events leading up to the poultry festival 1-13 are the Queen's Pageant, Do-Da Parade, a co-ed softball tournament, 1-14 and a fajita luncheon; the pageant itself offers many 1-15 family-oriented attractions such as gospel singing, a chicken 1-16 cook-off, arts and crafts displays, a chicken clucking contest, a 1-17 street dance, and a petting zoo; and 1-18 WHEREAS, One of the festival's highlights is the Broiler Show 1-19 and Auction, which serves as a showcase for the efforts of the 1-20 Shelby County 4-H and F.F.A. members and boasts some of the finest 1-21 poultry in the nation; and 1-22 WHEREAS, For the past two decades, the East Texas Poultry 1-23 Festival has provided thousands of delighted participants with a 1-24 Texas-sized helping of fun and entertainment and this unique event 2-1 truly merits special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby recognize the East Texas Poultry Festival as the 2-4 official poultry festival of the State of Texas and extend sincere 2-5 congratulations to the citizens of Shelby County on the event's 2-6 20th anniversary; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce as an expression 2-9 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
