No. 273 75R7904 JHS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The members of American Legion Post 251 are 1-2 observing the 77th anniversary of the founding of this esteemed 1-3 fraternal organization, and this event is truly deserving of 1-4 legislative recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Located in El Campo, Craig-Harriss Post 251 was 1-6 chartered on August 30, 1920, as America and its citizens were 1-7 coming to grips with the aftermath of World War I; during their 1-8 many years of service to the El Campo community, these Legionnaires 1-9 have endeavored to promote the cause of freedom in America while 1-10 taking an active role in the local community; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Established in 1919, the American Legion is the 1-12 nation's largest veterans organization, with 4.5 million men and 1-13 women counted among its ranks; these patriotic individuals have 1-14 heroically served the United States during periods of war and have 1-15 continued to assist America's citizens in other times of need; and 1-16 WHEREAS, After 77 years of assisting area veterans and 1-17 establishing a commitment to bettering the community, the members 1-18 of Craig-Harriss Post 251 are indeed "Still Serving America"; the 1-19 many good works undertaken by this fine group have distinguished it 1-20 among the citizens of El Campo, and this chamber takes great 1-21 pleasure in honoring this commendable organization and its 1-22 extraordinary history on this occasion; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby commemorate the 77th anniversary of the founding 2-1 of American Legion Post 251 and recognize the week of March 9-15, 2-2 1997, as American Legion Week in Texas; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for Commander Andrew Garza and the Legionnaires of 2-5 Craig-Harriss Post 251 as an expression of highest regard by the 2-6 Texas House of Representatives.
