R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The recent passing of Burghardt Oswald Edwards on

 1-2     January 21, 1997, at the age of 83, has brought a great loss to the

 1-3     many friends and relatives of this esteemed gentleman; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Born June 10, 1913, in Palestine, Texas, Mr. Edwards

 1-5     attended grade school in his hometown and later relocated to San

 1-6     Antonio, where he was graduated from Douglas High School; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Mr. Edwards was a dedicated postal worker for 31

 1-8     years and during that time he was an inspiration to his coworkers

 1-9     and a credit to the postal service organization; and

1-10           WHEREAS, An avid and knowledgeable bridge player, he shared

1-11     his considerable skills at that pastime with others as an

1-12     instructor at the East Side Multi Purpose Center; and

1-13           WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, his happiest and most

1-14     rewarding times were those spent with his wife of 65 years, Veola,

1-15     and their six children; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Burghardt Oswald Edwards was a man of rare

1-17     compassion and dedication; although his warmth and wisdom are gone

1-18     from us now, his remarkable spirit will surely live on in the

1-19     hearts of the many people whose lives he touched during his time on

1-20     this earth; now, therefore, be it

1-21           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-22     Legislature hereby honor the life of Burghardt Oswald Edwards and

1-23     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,

1-24     Veola Edwards; to his children, Bruce Edwards, Burghardt Edwards,

 2-1     Jr., Veola Edwards, Velma Catherine Nanka-Bruce, and Anjanette

 2-2     Granville; to his sister, Velma Vivian Diaz-Infante; to his brother

 2-3     Theadore Edwards; to his nephew, Teddy Edwards, Jr.; to his seven

 2-4     grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and to the many other

 2-5     friends and relatives of this beloved man; and, be it further

 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-7     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

 2-8     House of Representatives adjourns this day it do so in memory of

 2-9     Burghardt Oswald Edwards.
