                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Dick Bachman in 1996 has brought a

 1-2     great loss to the many friends and relatives of this esteemed

 1-3     Texan; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, For many years Mr. Bachman, with his wife Martha,

 1-5     ran a highly successful automobile dealership, and after retirement

 1-6     from that business the couple were determined to be of service to

 1-7     their community; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, Both staunch believers in the value of reading, the

 1-9     Bachmans became tutors for the Bay City chapter of the Literacy

1-10     Volunteers of America (LVA), Inc., in 1990, and their patient

1-11     guidance enabled many individuals to better develop this vital

1-12     skill; and

1-13           WHEREAS, In addition to his tutoring work, Mr. Bachman was a

1-14     highly successful fund-raiser for the organization, and his efforts

1-15     were instrumental in keeping LVA Bay City solvent during the early

1-16     to mid-1990s, when he served as chairman of the resource

1-17     development committee and also coordinated many membership drives;

1-18     and

1-19           WHEREAS, In recognition of their significant contributions to

1-20     LVA Bay City, the Bachmans were deservedly chosen corecipients of

1-21     the inaugural Outstanding Volunteer Award at the end of the

1-22     1995-1996 fiscal year; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Dick Bachman was a man of rare generosity and

1-24     vision; although his warmth and wisdom are gone from us now, his

 2-1     remarkable spirit will surely live on in the hearts of the many

 2-2     people whose lives he touched during his time on this earth; now,

 2-3     therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-5     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dick Bachman and

 2-6     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,

 2-7     Martha Bachman; to his son, Richard Bachman; and to the many other

 2-8     friends and relatives of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further

 2-9           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-10     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-11     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-12     Dick Bachman.
