By Gallego H.R. No. 281 75R4467 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On November 30, 1994, Dorothy M. Leavitt retired 1-2 from her position as dean of admissions and records at Sul Ross 1-3 State University, and her 26 years of dedicated service are indeed 1-4 worthy of special praise and recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Leavitt's long association with Sul Ross State 1-6 University began in 1957, when she began work on her master's 1-7 degree; a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, she taught 1-8 at Alpine Junior High School in Texas before joining the faculty of 1-9 Sul Ross in 1968; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Since that time she has held a number of positions 1-11 at the university, and her excellence as an instructor is mirrored 1-12 by her abilities as an administrator; in 1975 she assumed the post 1-13 of university registrar, and in 1991 she was named dean of 1-14 admissions and records; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A vital and valued member of the community, 1-16 Mrs. Leavitt has also given freely of her time and energy to 1-17 numerous professional and civic organizations, including the 1-18 American Business Communication Association, the Sul Ross State 1-19 University Ex-Student Association, and Pilot Club International; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, Mrs. Leavitt's greatest source of joy and 1-22 inspiration remains her loving and close-knit family, and she and 1-23 her devoted husband Bill Leavitt have been blessed with three 1-24 sons: George Lester Leavitt, William Arthur Leavitt, and John 2-1 Harvey Leavitt; in recent years, the family has welcomed the 2-2 addition of several grandchildren to its ranks as well; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Through the years, Sul Ross State University 2-4 benefited immeasurably from Dorothy Leavitt's talents and 2-5 commitment, and her many years of outstanding service endure today 2-6 through the impressive legacy of achievement she left behind; now, 2-7 therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby recognize Dorothy M. Leavitt for her 2-10 distinguished career at Sul Ross State University and extend to her 2-11 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it 2-12 further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for Mrs. Leavitt as an expression of high regard by the 2-15 Texas House of Representatives.
