R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Angleton's Clyde W. Neal will receive the William D. 1-2 Colegrove Award on March 4, 1997, and this event is indeed 1-3 deserving of special legislative recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Neal is a veteran of World War II who saw combat 1-5 with the 14th Armored Division of the U.S. Army in both Germany and 1-6 France; when his military service ended, this patriotic individual 1-7 entered the private sector, and in 1952, he began a successful 1-8 career in the insurance industry when he formed a partnership with 1-9 E. L. Lehmann; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Mr. Neal is credited with leading the effort to 1-11 establish the Angleton-Danbury General Hospital, and he has served 1-12 on the board of directors of this facility since the 1960s; he 1-13 currently acts as chairman of that body and continues to make many 1-14 crucial decisions that directly affect the hospital; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This enthusiastic civic leader is also involved in 1-16 such commendable programs as the Boy Scouts of America and the 1-17 United Way of Brazoria County, and he has provided valued 1-18 leadership and guidance as president of both the Rotary Club and 1-19 the Angleton Chamber of Commerce; he was honored by the City of 1-20 Angleton for his many years of community service when Mayor Roy 1-21 Gardner proclaimed November 23, 1996, as Clyde W. Neal Day in 1-22 Angleton; and 1-23 WHEREAS, A devoted member of First Baptist Church, Mr. Neal 1-24 teaches Sunday school and serves his fellow congregants as a 2-1 deacon; he is well-regarded in the Angleton area, and many of his 2-2 fellow citizens are likely to recognize him as the host of a 2-3 locally-produced cable program on Channel 4; and 2-4 WHEREAS, For 50 years, Mr. Neal has been supported in his 2-5 many productive endeavors by his wife, Dorothy Jane Neal, and this 2-6 devoted family man takes great pride in the achievements of their 2-7 sons and grandchildren; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Clyde W. Neal has distinguished himself among the 2-9 citizens of Angleton through his outstanding efforts to serve his 2-10 neighbors and improve his community, and it is a privilege to 2-11 acknowledge his many contributions in this regard; now, therefore, 2-12 be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby honor Clyde W. Neal for his lifetime of 2-15 community service and congratulate him on his receipt of the 2-16 William D. Colegrove Award; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for Mr. Neal as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-19 House of Representatives.
