R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Frank Mariano Tejeda, Jr., was born on  October 2,

 1-2     1945, to loving parents, Frank Tejeda and Lillie Cisneros Tejeda in

 1-3     South San Antonio, Texas; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda began a life of service to his church,

 1-5     his family, his country, and his community; beginning as a child

 1-6     serving as an altar boy at St.  Leo Catholic Church, participating

 1-7     in many activities, including Boy Scouts and Little League

 1-8     athletics, and working with his parents to help earn a living; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda began his life of public service by

1-10     joining the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably and with

1-11     distinction, earning the Bronze Star, with "V" for valor, and

1-12     earning the Purple Heart as a result of wounds suffered in Vietnam;

1-13     his gallant action in the face of enemy fire while attempting to

1-14     save the life of a wounded fellow marine earned him the Silver

1-15     Star; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda distinguished himself by earning an

1-17     overall score of 99.06 at the United States Marine Reserve Officer

1-18     Candidate School and earning the coveted Commandant's Trophy for

1-19     the record score that stands to this date; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Frank honed his mental skills by earning degrees

1-21     from several universities, including a bachelor of arts degree from

1-22     St. Mary's University of San Antonio, a doctor of jurisprudence

1-23     degree from Boalt Hall at Berkeley, California, a master of arts

1-24     degree in public administration from Harvard, and a master of arts

 2-1     degree in law from Yale, which would have led most other persons to

 2-2     riches; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, Frank instead chose to continue in public service to

 2-4     the people of San Antonio and Texas by serving with honor and

 2-5     distinction in the House of Representatives of Texas from 1976 to

 2-6     1986, passing important legislation affecting the community and

 2-7     particularly veterans and victims of crime; and

 2-8           WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda served in the Texas Senate from 1986 to

 2-9     1992, establishing his leadership and an uncanny ability to get

2-10     things done and demonstrating his determination to remember all the

2-11     people he represented, including authoring legislation that made

2-12     the Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Day in Texas a state holiday;

2-13     and

2-14           WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda served with honor and distinction in

2-15     the United States Congress after being the first member in history

2-16     elected from a new Congressional district without opposition; and

2-17           WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda was generous to his family, friends,

2-18     and community, placing the community interest before personal

2-19     riches or wealth, often helping in children's athletics (Pop

2-20     Warner, Little League, School Band, etc.) or helping others in

2-21     crisis, and many, many uncounted acts of kindness that will never

2-22     be known; and

2-23           WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda has earned the respect of all his peers

2-24     for his devotion to "Duty, Honor, Country" and has personified the

2-25     motto of his beloved Marine Corps  "Semper Fi" and demonstrated the

2-26     finest qualities of the honorable public servant; and

2-27           WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda suffered cancer that, despite his

 3-1     courageous efforts and our many, many prayers, took his life while

 3-2     there remained so much that his family, relatives, and community

 3-3     believed Frank would fulfill; and

 3-4           WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature recognizes the many sacrifices

 3-5     made by Frank Tejeda's parents (Frank and Lillie Tejeda) and the

 3-6     tremendous influence his parents had on him, and recognizes further

 3-7     the love and caring shared by Frank Tejeda with his children,

 3-8     Marissa, Sonya, and Frankie, and Celia Tejeda, their mother; and

 3-9           WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature recognizes the profound loss

3-10     that his mother, his children, Celia, Frank's sister and brothers,

3-11     his aunts, and many relatives and friends have suffered; now,

3-12     therefore, be it

3-13           RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives recognize

3-14     Frank Tejeda for his years of service to his community, to the

3-15     people of Texas, and to the people of the United States of America;

3-16     and, be it further

3-17           RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives recognize

3-18     Frank Tejeda for his remarkable achievements and his demonstrated

3-19     courage, valor, and exceptional character; and, be it further

3-20           RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives recognize

3-21     Frank Tejeda's tremendous sacrifices that he endured during his

3-22     service to the people of his community, the people of Texas, and

3-23     the people of the United States of America; and, be it further

3-24           RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives express its

3-25     most sincere admiration, heartfelt appreciation, and profound

3-26     respect for Frank M. Tejeda; and, be it further

3-27           RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives express to

 4-1     the family of Frank Tejeda (his mother, Lillie; his children,

 4-2     Marissa, Sonya, and Frank III; Celia Tejeda; his sister, Mary

 4-3     Alice; his brothers, Juan, Ernest, and Richard; his aunts, cousins,

 4-4     and relatives; and many, many friends) its heartfelt condolences

 4-5     and its sincere appreciation for sharing Frank with the people of

 4-6     Texas.
