R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Frank Mariano Tejeda, Jr. was born on October 2, 1-2 1945 to loving parents, Frank Tejeda and Lillie Cisneros Tejeda in 1-3 South San Antonio, Texas; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda began a life of service to his church, 1-5 his family, his country and his community; beginning as a child 1-6 serving as an altar boy at St. Leo Catholic Church, participating 1-7 in many activities, including boy scouts, and little league 1-8 athletics, and working with his parents to help earn a living; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda began his life of public service by 1-10 joining the United States Marine Corp. serving honorably and with 1-11 distinction, earning the bronze star, with "V" for valor, and 1-12 earning the purple heart as a result of wounds suffered in Vietnam; 1-13 his Gallant action in the face of enemy fire while attempting to 1-14 save the life of a wounded fellow marine earning him the Silver 1-15 Star; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda distinguished himself by earning an 1-17 overall score of 99.06 at the United States Marine Reserve Officer 1-18 Candidate School, earning the coveted Commondant's Trophy for the 1-19 record score that stands to this date; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Frank honed his mental skills by earning degrees 1-21 from several universities, including a B.A. from St. Mary's 2-1 University of San Antonio, A Doctor of Jurisprudence from Boalt 2-2 Hall at Berkeley, California, an M.A. in Public Administration from 2-3 Harvard and an M.A. in law from Yale which would have lead most 2-4 other persons to riches; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Frank, instead chose to continue in public service 2-6 to the people of San Antonio and Texas by serving with honor and 2-7 distinction in the House of Representatives of Texas from 1976 to 2-8 1986 passing important legislation affecting the community and 2-9 particularly veterans and victims of crime; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda served in the Texas Senate from 1986 to 2-11 1992 establishing his leadership and an uncanny ability to get 2-12 things done and demonstrating his determination to remember all the 2-13 people he represented including authoring legislation that made the 2-14 Martin Luther King Memorial day in Texas a state holiday; and 2-15 WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda served with honor and distinction in 2-16 the US Congress, after being the first member in history elected 2-17 from a new Congressional district without opposition; and 2-18 WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda was generous to his family, friends and 2-19 community, placing the community interest before personal riches or 2-20 wealth, often helping in children's athletics (Pop Warner, Little 2-21 League, School Band, etc.) or helping others in crisis, and many, 2-22 many uncounted acts of kindness that will never be known; and 2-23 WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda has earned the respect of all his peers 2-24 for his devotion to "Duty, Honor Country" and has personified the 2-25 motto of his beloved Marine Corp. "Semper Fi" and demonstrated the 3-1 finest qualities of the honorable public servant; and 3-2 WHEREAS, Frank Tejeda suffered cancer that, despite his 3-3 courageous efforts and our many, many prayers, took his life while 3-4 there remained so much that his family, relatives and community 3-5 believed Frank would fulfill; and 3-6 WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature recognizes the many sacrifices 3-7 made by Frank Tejeda's parents (Frank and Lillie Tejeda) and the 3-8 tremendous influence his parents had on him, and recognizes 3-9 further, the love and caring shared by Frank Tejeda with his 3-10 children, Marissa, Sonya, and Frankie, and Celia Tejeda, their 3-11 mother; and 3-12 WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature recognizes the profound loss 3-13 that his mother, his children, Celia, Frank's sister and brothers, 3-14 his aunts and many relatives and friends have suffered; now, 3-15 therefore, be it 3-16 RESOLVED, that the Texas House of Representatives recognizes 3-17 Frank Tejeda for his years of service to his community, to the 3-18 people of Texas and to the people of the United States of America; 3-19 and, be it further 3-20 RESOLVED, that the Texas House of Representatives recognizes 3-21 Frank Tejeda for his remarkable achievements and his demonstrated 3-22 courage, valor and exceptional character; and, be it further 3-23 RESOLVED, that the Texas House of Representatives recognizes 3-24 Frank Tejeda's tremendous sacrifices that he endured during his 3-25 service to the people of his community, the people of Texas, and 4-1 the people of the United States of America; and, be it further 4-2 RESOLVED, that the Texas House of Representatives expresses 4-3 its most sincere admiration, heartfelt appreciation and profound 4-4 respect for Frank M. Tejeda; and, be it further 4-5 RESOLVED, that the Texas House of Representatives expresses 4-6 to the family of Frank Tejeda (his mother Lillie, his children 4-7 Marissa, Sonya, and Frank III, to Celia Tejeda and his sister Mary 4-8 Alice, brothers Juan, Ernest, and Richard -- his aunts, cousins and 4-9 relatives and many, many friends) its heartfelt condolences, and 4-10 its sincere appreciation for sharing Frank with the people of 4-11 Texas.
