R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of a notable Texan is truly an

 1-2     event worthy of special praise and recognition; on February 16,

 1-3     1997, Joseph E. Lechler of McLennan County celebrated this

 1-4     momentous milestone in his life, and we join his numerous friends

 1-5     and admirers in wishing him many happy returns; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Lechler was born February 16,

 1-7     1907, in Valley Mills, and as he grew to adulthood he witnessed the

 1-8     many remarkable events that comprise this colorful era of Lone Star

 1-9     history; and

1-10           WHEREAS, At the age of 17, Mr. Lechler went to work for

1-11     McLennan County, and his service to the county continued throughout

1-12     his life; elected to the commissioners court in 1950, he served

1-13     with distinction until his retirement in 1979; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Throughout his life and career, Joseph Lechler has

1-15     sought to make the world around him a better place, and it is

1-16     indeed fitting that he be recognized at this auspicious juncture in

1-17     his life; now, therefore, be it

1-18           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-19     Legislature hereby honor Joseph E. Lechler on the occasion of his

1-20     90th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued

1-21     success and happiness in the future; and, be it further

1-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

1-23     prepared for Mr. Lechler as an expression of high regard by the

1-24     Texas House of Representatives.
