                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Seldom in the annals of the University

 1-2     Interscholastic League has there been a team such as the 1972

 1-3     Roosevelt High School Basketball Team from Dallas, which won the

 1-4     Class 4A State Championship in basketball that year; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The University Interscholastic League will be

 1-6     recognizing these 1972 champions during the 1997 Boys State

 1-7     Basketball Tournament on March 8, 1997; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, Roosevelt was the first Dallas high school to win

 1-9     the University Interscholastic League basketball championship after

1-10     desegregation, and its outstanding team set scoring records in the

1-11     state league and the all-star player broke the league's 4A

1-12     individual player's scoring record; neither record has been broken

1-13     since the time; and

1-14           WHEREAS, The team members who comprised that championship

1-15     group were:   Marsalis Abney, Ronald Brown, Jerry Davis, Clarence

1-16     Denard, Leroy Edwards, Steven Giles, Eger Hopkins, Clarence

1-17     Jackson, Robert Johnson, Charles Marshell, Melvin Moore, Melvin

1-18     Price, Larry Ray, Harvey Scott, and Ira Terrell; they were

1-19     fortunate to have Ellis Davis, Jr., as their coach and George

1-20     Martin as their assistant coach; the managers were Reginald Gray

1-21     and Manzell Robertson; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, The players, managers, and coaches were praised for

 2-2     their teamwork and desire for excellence that made them a winning

 2-3     team; now therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-5     Legislature hereby congratulate the 1972 Class 4A State Basketball

 2-6     champions from Roosevelt High School of Dallas; and, be it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-8     prepared for the 1972 Class 4A State Basketball champions from

 2-9     Roosevelt High School of Dallas as an expression of high regard by

2-10     the Texas House of Representatives.
