R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Uvalde Broadcasters, Inc., will mark a significant

 1-2     milestone on April 5, 1997, as its staff and officers celebrate the

 1-3     50th anniversary of its founding by rededicating the company's

 1-4     commitment of service for the next half-century; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The corporation was established in 1947, when

 1-6     retired United States Army Captain E. J. Harpole and his wife, Mary

 1-7     Harpole, sought to meet the information and entertainment needs of

 1-8     their fellow residents by forming a radio station in the community;

 1-9     their efforts reached fruition when Radio Station KVOU-AM first

1-10     began broadcasting on April 4; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Uvalde Broadcasters, Inc., has

1-12     sought to keep pace with the region's rapid growth rate, and the

1-13     company acquired Radio Station KYUF-FM in 1976 to better serve the

1-14     Wintergarden area; and

1-15           WHEREAS, The corporation recently acquired Radio Station

1-16     KUVA-FM, and in doing so, it has realized a dream of its founders

1-17     by providing a full-time Spanish radio station for devoted

1-18     listeners in the county; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Since Mr. Harpole's passing in 1983, Mrs. Harpole

1-20     and her son, Jay Harpole, have dedicated themselves to maintaining

1-21     the commitment that their family made to the community long ago;

1-22     for more than 12 years, Mrs. Harpole has served with distinction as

1-23     chair of the company's board of directors, while her son has

1-24     effectively managed a host of concerns as board president; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Uvalde Broadcasters, Inc., has enhanced the fabric

 2-2     of life in Southwest Texas in myriad ways, and it gives the members

 2-3     of this chamber great pleasure to honor all those associated with

 2-4     the corporation on this auspicious occasion; now, therefore, be it

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-6     Legislature hereby commend Uvalde Broadcasters, Inc., for its

 2-7     exemplary record of public service and extend to its staff and

 2-8     officers warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness as

 2-9     they begin their next 50 years in operation; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-11     prepared for Uvalde Broadcasters, Inc., as an expression of high

2-12     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
