R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Eleanor Elam made a truly significant contribution

 1-2     to her community through her work as a teacher with the Alpine

 1-3     Independent School District (I.S.D.); and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth,

 1-5     she also pursued her higher education at Texas Tech University and

 1-6     at Sul Ross State University, where she completed her kindergarten

 1-7     certification; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, Mrs. Elam began her career as a teacher in Lubbock

 1-9     and later moved to Alpine; though she taught every grade,

1-10     kindergarten remained her favorite to teach, and during her many

1-11     years of service, her patient and knowledgeable classroom demeanor

1-12     earned her the respect and admiration of her students, their

1-13     parents, and her fellow teachers; and

1-14           WHEREAS, On the occasion of her retirement, the Alpine I.S.D.

1-15     recognized Mrs. Elam with a well-deserved award for her quarter

1-16     century of exceptional service to the children of Alpine; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Throughout her sterling career as an educator, this

1-18     dedicated individual received the constant love and support of her

1-19     husband, Earl Elam, who also devoted his life to the cause of

1-20     education as a professor at Sul Ross State University; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Eleanor Elam set high standards of professional

1-22     excellence to which all those in the teaching profession might

1-23     aspire, and her many achievements are indeed worthy of special

1-24     legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-2     Legislature hereby honor Eleanor Elam for her exemplary record of

 2-3     service to the Alpine Independent School District; and, be it

 2-4     further

 2-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-6     prepared for Eleanor Elam as an expression of high regard by the

 2-7     Texas House of Representatives.
