R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, For many years the Dallas community has benefited

 1-2     from the vision and leadership of Donna Houston-Woods, and she is

 1-3     indeed worthy of special praise and recognition at this time; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Since becoming Director of Community Development and

 1-5     Government Relations at The Science Place in Fair Park in 1991, she

 1-6     has dedicated herself to a number of worthy initiatives targeted to

 1-7     the diverse needs of her community; she assisted in organizing the

 1-8     Dallas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering Career Fair, and as a

 1-9     liaison of the Black Churches Project she worked with congregations

1-10     in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Grand Prairie as part of an ambitious

1-11     endeavor in science education; and

1-12           WHEREAS, She has further served her fellow citizens through

1-13     her involvement in the Adopt-A-Future Scholarship Program and

1-14     YouthALIVE!, which trains young people ages 12-17 in scientific

1-15     work and enables deserving students to serve in paid internships;

1-16     and

1-17           WHEREAS, An esteemed Board Member of the American Diabetes

1-18     Association,  Ms. Houston-Woods recently launched the association's

1-19     first African-American program, which seeks to enhance awareness of

1-20     diabetes in the black community through a wide range of

1-21     initiatives, including an Information Center, "Change for the Cure"

1-22     Diabetes Awareness Workshops, an African-American Essay Contest,

1-23     and Super Diabetes Sunday, which will be held March 16, 1997; and

1-24           WHEREAS, Donna Houston-Woods has enhanced the quality of life

 2-1     in the Dallas community in numerous ways, and her exceptional

 2-2     commitment is a source of inspiration to all who are privileged to

 2-3     know her; now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-5     Legislature hereby commend Donna Houston-Woods for her exemplary

 2-6     civic involvement and extend to her warmest best wishes for

 2-7     continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors; and,

 2-8     be it further

 2-9           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-10     prepared for Ms. Houston-Woods as an expression of high regard by

2-11     the Texas House of Representatives.
