By McClendon H.R. No. 319 75R7364 JHS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Melvin L. Braziel's dedication and commitment to his 1-2 community have indeed made this Texan worthy of special legislative 1-3 recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Currently employed as acting president and chief 1-5 executive officer of the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA), 1-6 Mr. Braziel has been associated with this agency since 1964; during 1-7 his tenure, he has capably served as special assistant to the 1-8 executive director, budget officer, project manager, chief 1-9 financial officer, and senior vice president; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A 1961 graduate of Karl Downs High School in Weimar, 1-11 Mr. Braziel served three years in the United States Army and by the 1-12 age of 19 had attained the rank of sergeant E-5; recognizing the 1-13 importance of advanced education, he earned a bachelor's degree in 1-14 accounting from St. Mary's University in 1972, and two years later 1-15 received his master's degree in business administration; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Mr. Braziel is an active member of Bethel AME 1-17 Church, where he faithfully serves his fellow congregants as a 1-18 steward and as assistant chairman of the finance committee; in 1-19 addition, this dedicated gentleman teaches Sunday school and is 1-20 involved in three of the church's choirs; and 1-21 WHEREAS, A life member of the NAACP, Mr. Braziel is a board 1-22 member of the Texas chapter of the National Association of Housing 1-23 and Redevelopment Officials and teaches business administration 1-24 part-time at St. Philip's College; he also serves as chairman of 2-1 the board of directors of the SAHA Credit Union and is a member of 2-2 the Psi Alpha chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; and 2-3 WHEREAS, A dedicated family man as well, he and his wife, 2-4 Gjaundell, were married in 1969, and they are the proud parents of 2-5 two sons, Skip and Keith; the tremendous love and support that 2-6 Mr. Braziel has received from his family have inspired his quest to 2-7 better his community, and this chamber is pleased to honor this 2-8 commendable gentleman for his many contributions in this regard; 2-9 now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby honor Melvin L. Braziel for his service to the 2-12 San Antonio community and extend to him sincere best wishes for 2-13 continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it 2-14 further 2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-16 prepared for Mr. Braziel as an expression of high regard by the 2-17 Texas House of Representatives.
