                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, From May 2 to 5, 1997, Phillis Wheatley High

 1-2     School's Class of 1947 will gather in San Antonio to celebrate its

 1-3     50th reunion, and this singular event is truly worthy of special

 1-4     praise and recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Over the course of these four days, members of the

 1-6     Class of 1947 will rekindle old friendships and recall cherished

 1-7     memories even as they exchange news of their latest achievements,

 1-8     and the recollection of half a century of trials and triumphs is

 1-9     sure to be accompanied by lively conversation, warm laughter, and

1-10     the occasional tear; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Just as their alma mater's namesake Phillis Wheatley

1-12     traveled thousands of miles from her native Africa before becoming

1-13     one of colonial America's preeminent poets, so have the

1-14     distinguished members of the Class of 1947 traveled through the

1-15     latter half of this remarkable century to the present day, and

1-16     they can look back on their historic journeys with both pride and

1-17     satisfaction;  now, therefore, be it

1-18           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-19     Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Phillis

1-20     Wheatley High School's Class of 1947 and extend to its members

1-21     sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the

1-22     future.
