R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On January 31, 1997, Ervie and Velma Harrison of San

 1-2     Antonio were crowned the King and Queen of the 1997 Annual Mardi

 1-3     Gras Ball, and this noteworthy distinction is indeed worthy of

 1-4     special praise and recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Mrs. Harrison initiated the Mardi Gras Ball, a

 1-6     festive and elegant celebration, in 1991 as a fundraiser for Holy

 1-7     Redeemer Catholic Church, and she and Mr. Harrison were selected as

 1-8     this year's King and Queen by Father Norbert T.  Rosso in

 1-9     appreciation of their many years of dedicated service to the

1-10     church; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Married for 45 years, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison first

1-12     met in his hometown of Laurel, Mississippi, and  within two months

1-13     they were wed; since that time they have been blessed with a large

1-14     and loving family, and they take great pride in their six children,

1-15     15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Vital and valued members of the community, Mr. and

1-17     Mrs. Harrison have both enjoyed successful careers; for 35 years

1-18     Mrs. Harrison has been the proprietor of the popular Velma Styling

1-19     Salon, while until his retirement Mr. Harrison worked as a

1-20     supervisor for a pharmaceutical company; he is also known far and

1-21     wide as a chef of some talent; and

1-22           WHEREAS, Ervie and Velma Harrison's contributions to the

1-23     community have greatly benefited their fellow citizens, and it is

1-24     fitting at this time to recognize these remarkable Texans for their

 2-1     many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-3     Legislature hereby congratulate Ervie and Velma Harrison on their

 2-4     selection as King and Queen of the 1997 Annual Mardi Gras Ball and

 2-5     extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success and

 2-6     happiness in the years to come; and, be it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-8     prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Harrison as an expression of high regard

 2-9     by the Texas House of Representatives.
