R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Malone V. Hill, Sr., on February

 1-2     17, 1997, at the age of 92, has brought a great loss to the many

 1-3     friends and relatives of this distinguished physician; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Dr. Hill was born October 20, 1904,

 1-5     in Santa Anna and grew up in Eldorado; he attended New Mexico

 1-6     Military Institute and The University of Texas and received his

 1-7     medical degree in 1931 from Baylor School of Medicine; Dr. Hill

 1-8     completed his surgical training under his uncle, Dr. James A. Hill,

 1-9     in Houston and went on to become a fellow of the American College

1-10     of Surgeons; and

1-11           WHEREAS, After moving to Alpine in 1937, Dr. Hill established

1-12     a much-needed medical clinic and hospital for the residents of that

1-13     community and the surrounding area; deeply committed to the public

1-14     health and welfare of the citizens of this rural region, he

1-15     provided expert medical services for successive generations of

1-16     residents; Dr. Hill loved the people and the mountainous landscape

1-17     of this West Texas town, and he lived and worked there until his

1-18     retirement in 1977; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Dr. Hill took as his bride the lovely Frances

1-20     Morelock of Alpine in 1941; the happy couple enjoyed a deeply

1-21     fulfilling union for many years until Mrs. Hill's passing, and

1-22     their marriage was blessed by the birth of two fine sons, James A.

1-23     Hill and Malone V. Hill, Jr.; and

1-24           WHEREAS, During World War II, this patriotic Texan answered

 2-1     his country's call to arms as a combat surgeon in the United States

 2-2     Navy; he participated in several Pacific beachheads, including

 2-3     Leyte Gulf, and attained the rank of lieutenant commander; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, A man of great warmth and intelligence, Dr. Malone

 2-5     V.  Hill, Sr., was loved and respected by all who had the privilege

 2-6     to know him; though his presence will be deeply missed, his memory

 2-7     will long endure in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched

 2-8     during his time on this earth; now, therefore, be it

 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-10     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Malone V. Hill,

2-11     Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to

2-12     his sons and daughters-in-law,  James A. Hill and Tori Hill and Dr.

2-13     Malone V. Hill, Jr., and Haddy Hill; to his sister, Katherine B.

2-14     Hill; to his two beloved grandchildren, Malone "Trey" Hill III and

2-15     Virginia Frances Hill; to his nephews, Julius W. Walker, Jr., and

2-16     Larry Robertson; and to the many other friends and relatives of

2-17     this outstanding gentleman; and, be it further

2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-19     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-20     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-21     Dr. Malone V. Hill, Sr.
