R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Susan E. Wolf on September 21, 1996,
1-2 at the age of 48, has brought a great loss to the many friends and
1-3 relatives of this esteemed educator; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born March 29, 1948, to Herbert and Hedy Badt, she
1-5 began her higher education at the State University of New York at
1-6 Potsdam, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education, and
1-7 continued her pursuit of academic excellence at Queens College,
1-8 earning her master's degree in secondary English education; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Wolf began her career as an educator in
1-10 Hicksville, New York, where she taught language arts, and although
1-11 she was a superb classroom instructor, her exceptional
1-12 administrative skills enabled her to rise to the position of
1-13 assistant principal at Oldfield Middle School; and
1-14 WHEREAS, On relocating to Houston in 1988, this dynamic and
1-15 visionary individual was appointed assistant principal of Spring
1-16 Oaks Middle School; two years later she became principal of
1-17 Northbrook Middle School, which had been closed since 1985, and
1-18 under her leadership the school successfully reopened in 1991; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Innovative as well as dedicated, she instituted a
1-20 number of initiatives as principal at Northbrook Middle School,
1-21 including using technology in the classroom and introducing
1-22 uniforms to promote school unity; and
1-23 WHEREAS, In recognition of her exceptional accomplishments in
1-24 the field of education, she received the Blue Ribbon Award for
2-1 Educational Leadership Excellence from Governor Ann Richards, but
2-2 she took even more pride in the awards won by Northbrook Middle
2-3 School, which included the 1995 Exemplary School Award from the
2-4 U.S. Department of Education, the Texas Blue Ribbon, and the
2-5 Educational Excellence Award from Houston Mayor Bob Lanier; and
2-6 WHEREAS, Susan E. Wolf's exceptional dedication to the needs
2-7 of her students was an inspiration to all whose pleasure it was to
2-8 know her, although her patient guidance and gentle love will be
2-9 missed by all who knew her, her remarkable spirit will surely live
2-10 on in the hearts of the many people whose lives she touched during
2-11 her time on this earth; now, therefore, be it
2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-13 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Susan E. Wolf and
2-14 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
2-15 husband, Gary Wolf; to her children, Laura and David Wolf; to her
2-16 mother, Hedy Badt; to her brother, Stan Badt; to her mother-in-law,
2-17 Lotte Wolf; to her sisters-in-law, Harriet Wolf and Helen Badt; and
2-18 to the many other friends and relatives of this beloved woman; and,
2-19 be it further
2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-21 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-22 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-23 Susan E. Wolf.
