                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Winter 1996 issue of Our Texas magazine marked

 1-2     the publication's fifth anniversary, and this auspicious occasion

 1-3     is indeed worthy of special praise and recognition; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Founded in 1991 by publisher Gemeral Berry, Jr., Our

 1-5     Texas uniquely reflects the depth and diversity of the

 1-6     African-American  experience in Texas, and the enthusiastic public

 1-7     response to the quarterly confirms the astuteness of Mr. Berry's

 1-8     vision; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, In the five years since the magazine's inception,

1-10     its staff and management have established themselves as being among

1-11     the Lone Star State's most accomplished journalists, and Our Texas

1-12     has already been accorded a number of honors, including two Katie

1-13     awards from the Dallas chapter of the Society of Professional

1-14     Journalists and the Griot Award, presented by the Dallas-Fort Worth

1-15     Association of Black Communicators; and

1-16           WHEREAS, The talented team of professionals that produce Our

1-17     Texas can take great pride and satisfaction in their first five

1-18     years of  publication, and under the leadership of Mr. Berry and

1-19     editor Cliff Hocker, they now look forward to embracing the

1-20     challenges and opportunities of the years to come; now, therefore,

1-21     be it

1-22           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-23     Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with Our Texas

1-24     magazine on the publication's fifth anniversary and extend to them

 2-1     sincere best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it

 2-2     further

 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-4     prepared for the staff of Our Texas magazine as an expression of

 2-5     high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
