R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Davis Dallas Scarborough was the longest practicing

 1-2     member of the only three-generation law firm in Abilene, Texas,

 1-3     before his death on February 19, 1997; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, He was born on March 10, 1909, the son of longtime

 1-5     and well-known lawyer Dallas Scarborough and Jewel Davis

 1-6     Scarborough, who was a dynamic and dedicated civic activist

 1-7     throughout her lifetime; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, He graduated from Abilene High School, attended

 1-9     Hardin-Simmons University, graduated from The University of Texas

1-10     in 1929 and received his law degree from The University of Texas

1-11     Law School in 1932; and

1-12           WHEREAS, He married Mozelle Graham Scarborough in 1936 and

1-13     they were blessed with two fine sons, Frank and Charles

1-14     Scarborough, both distinguished lawyers in the molds of their

1-15     father and grandfather; and

1-16           WHEREAS, He served in the United States Navy during World War

1-17     II from 1943 to 1946 and was a loyal and patriotic citizen from the

1-18     Lone Star State; and

1-19           WHEREAS, He was honored by the State Bar of Texas in 1982 for

1-20     practicing law for more than 50 years, was president of the Abilene

1-21     Bar Association in 1960, and was very active as a member of the

1-22     Texas Bar Association; and

1-23           WHEREAS, He was a dedicated member of the Abilene Heavenly

1-24     Rest Episcopal Church and served as a delegate to three general

 2-1     conventions, having been one of the first acolytes in 1919; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, He was a 60-year member of the Abilene Exchange

 2-3     Club, which bestowed the Golden Deeds Award on his lovely wife,

 2-4     Mozelle, in 1977 and gave him the award as the 1994 recipient to

 2-5     recognize his generous legal services to people who could least

 2-6     afford to pay legal fees; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, He was a longtime pilot and often flew his plane to

 2-8     wherever he had to be in court; and

 2-9           WHEREAS, This colorful and one-of-a-kind courtroom lawyer

2-10     gained fame far beyond West Texas and was highly respected and

2-11     admired for his keen intellect and superb ability; and

2-12           WHEREAS, His devoted sons, Frank and Charles, have followed

2-13     in his giant footsteps and achieved recognition for their own legal

2-14     prowess and civic leadership roles; and

2-15           WHEREAS, He is survived by his wife, two sons, six

2-16     grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren and a host of family

2-17     friends; now, therefore, be it

2-18           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-19     Legislature hereby honor the life of Davis Dallas Scarborough and

2-20     extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family; and, be it

2-21     further

2-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-23     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-24     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-25     Davis Dallas Scarborough.
