No. 362 75R9341 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On March 18, 1997, many proud residents of 1-2 Seagoville will be in Austin to celebrate Seagoville Day at the 1-3 State Capitol, in recognition of this illustrious town and its 1-4 contributions to the State of Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Founded in 1876, the town was originally named Seago 1-6 after T. K. Seago, the settler who cleared his land of timber and 1-7 established the community's first store; the first official plat of 1-8 the city was recorded in the Dallas County Deed Records in 1883, 1-9 and in 1910 the post office changed the town's name to Seagoville 1-10 to avoid confusion with a similarly named community; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Located in the rich Blackland Prairie region near 1-12 the Trinity River, Seago was ideally suited for agricultural 1-13 development, and cotton and alfalfa were the two most prominent 1-14 crops; today the economy is more diversified, but residents and 1-15 businesses alike may still take advantage of the area's reasonable 1-16 land prices; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The inhabitants of this bustling little town are 1-18 proud of their small town atmosphere, yet the community's proximity 1-19 to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex enables residents and visitors 1-20 to have easy access to a wide range of big city cultural and sports 1-21 activities; thus, the community truly embodies the best aspects of 1-22 both rural and urban life; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Seagoville also boasts a variety of outdoor 1-24 recreational opportunities at its numerous parks, tennis 2-1 facilities, and senior citizens' and youth centers; nearby Lake Ray 2-2 Hubbard offers nearly 23,000 acres for fishing, water sports, or 2-3 just relaxation, while nature lovers can learn more about the area 2-4 at the Post Oak Preserve and Environmental Center; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Each October, the community celebrates the migration 2-6 of the beautiful monarch butterfly with Seagofest, a fun-filled 2-7 event for the entire family that provides a welcome opportunity for 2-8 residents to pay tribute to their shared history and culture; and 2-9 WHEREAS, The people of Seagoville take justifiable pride in 2-10 their community and in the unique role the town and its citizens 2-11 have played in the development of the Lone Star State, and the 2-12 Texas House of Representatives is proud to join them in the 2-13 commemoration of Seagoville Day; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-15 Legislature hereby recognize March 18, 1997, as Seagoville Day at 2-16 the State Capitol and join the citizens of that town in paying 2-17 tribute to one of Texas' finest communities; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for the city of Seagoville as a memento of this special 2-20 day and as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-21 Representatives.
