                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Association of Public Employee

 1-2     Retirement Systems (TexPERS) will be in Austin on March 25, 1997,

 1-3     to celebrate TexPERS Day at the Capitol; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, The members of the 92 groups that make up this

 1-5     commendable organization are dedicated to advancing the concerns of

 1-6     public employee retirement systems; by offering access to programs

 1-7     designed to educate and inform administrators, trustees, and

 1-8     employees of public pension plans throughout the state, TexPERS has

 1-9     established itself as one of the preeminent programs of its kind;

1-10     and

1-11           WHEREAS, Guest speakers at the organization's March 1996

1-12     conference addressed many of the issues that directly affect

1-13     pension plan members; nearly 500 people attended this highly

1-14     successful meeting that included lectures and roundtable

1-15     discussions concerning a variety of pension and investment matters;

1-16     and

1-17           WHEREAS, The conference provided an excellent forum for

1-18     advancing the goals of TexPERS, namely developing communication

1-19     between the diverse groups interested in public retirement plans,

1-20     providing education and guidance to pension administrators, and

1-21     protecting the rights of public pension systems and the employees

1-22     they cover; and

1-23           WHEREAS, The dedication and commitment demonstrated by the

1-24     members of this outstanding organization have benefited countless

 2-1     individuals throughout the Lone Star State, and their efforts are

 2-2     indeed deserving of special legislative recognition; now,

 2-3     therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-5     Legislature hereby recognize March 25, 1997, as Texas Association

 2-6     of Public Employee Retirement Systems Day at the Capitol and

 2-7     welcome the members of the visiting TexPERS delegation to Austin.
