R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     Dr. John Shoemaker on being named a Time magazine "local hero," a

 1-3     distinction that is truly well deserved in light of his  remarkable

 1-4     service to his community; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A dentist in Sherman, Texas, Dr. Shoemaker has for

 1-6     13 years volunteered his professional services to the Sherman

 1-7     Crisis Center, an organization dedicated to providing assistance to

 1-8     battered women living in a three-county area of North Texas; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Dr. Shoemaker's expertise is exceeded only by his

1-10     willingness to help others; although restoring the physical health

1-11     and appearance of his patients at the center requires considerable

1-12     time and energy, his doors always remain open to these individuals

1-13     who are most in need of his aid; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Through his acts of selfless generosity, this

1-15     extraordinary Texan and the other volunteers at the Sherman Crisis

1-16     Center have assisted many area women by restoring not only their

1-17     physical appearance and self-confidence but also their faith in

1-18     human kindness; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Dr. Shoemaker's efforts in behalf of battered women

1-20     are an inspiration to all who know him, and his accomplishments in

1-21     this regard are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition;

1-22     now, therefore, be it

1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-24     Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. John Shoemaker on his

 2-1     designation as a Time magazine "local hero" and commend him on his

 2-2     significant achievements as a volunteer for the Sherman  Crisis

 2-3     Center in Sherman; and, be it further

 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-5     prepared for Dr. Shoemaker as an expression of highest regard by

 2-6     the Texas House of Representatives.
