R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On February 7, 1997, the friends and family of Wann

 1-2     and Opal Barr gathered to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary,

 1-3     and this singular occasion is indeed worthy of special praise and

 1-4     recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Native Texans, Mr. and Mrs. Barr were joined in

 1-6     matrimony in the community of Tioga; since that time they have

 1-7     lived in a number of towns, but for the last 35 years they have

 1-8     made their home in Whitesboro; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Barr both enjoyed successful careers

1-10     before their retirement, Mr. Barr as a roughneck and warehouse

1-11     manager in the petroleum industry and Mrs. Barr as an elementary

1-12     school teacher and librarian, and they remain vital and valued

1-13     members of the community; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Named Whitesboro's Contemporary Woman of the Year in

1-15     1993, Mrs. Barr has given of her time and energy to the Perrin

1-16     School Library, the Meals on Wheels program, and election work, as

1-17     well as lending her talents to the Sweet Adeline Chorus of Sherman;

1-18     Mr. Barr is an active member of both the Whitesboro Masonic Lodge

1-19     and the Woodmen of the World; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. and Mrs. Barr have drawn

1-21     strength and sustenance from their association with the First

1-22     United Methodist Church in Whitesboro, and they have both

1-23     participated in the church's choir and Sunday school; Mrs. Barr is

1-24     also a member of the United Methodist Women and Church Women

 2-1     United; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Barr take great pride and pleasure in

 2-3     their daughters and sons-in-law, Wanna and Ken Kniss, Zetta and

 2-4     Buck Smith, Carla and Ty Lawson, and Glada and Frank Yerkes; more

 2-5     recently, this large and loving family has welcomed the addition of

 2-6     eight grandsons and one granddaughter; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, For half a century, Wann and Opal Barr have enjoyed

 2-8     a relationship that continues to grow in mutual affection and

 2-9     regard, and it is truly fitting at this time to recognize these

2-10     noteworthy Texans; now, therefore, be it

2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-12     Legislature hereby honor Wann and Opal Barr on the occasion of

2-13     their 50th anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for

2-14     continued success and happiness; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-16     prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Barr as an expression of high regard by

2-17     the Texas House of Representatives.
